Meet Newt. This little guy was rescued from a hoarding situation and it was obvious from the start that he had some medical concerns. He initially looked like he had a bad eye infection, but after being examined by the veterinarian, it was determined that he had bilateral ocular dermoid cysts. In Layman’s terms that means that Newt actually had hair growing out of the conjunctiva (lining of his eye lids) and into his eyes. Unfortunately for little Newt, that means that he always had hair irritating his eye. Imagine having an eyelash in your eye. Now imagine having 10 eyelashes in each eye that you can never get out. Despite this poor guy’s chronic pain, he was playful, sweet, and acted just like a kitten.
Our wonderful vet was able to remove the hair from Newt’s eyes, and he’s healed up very nicely. It is possible that at some point in the future the hair may grow back and it may require further medical care, but at this time, Newt is happy and healthy.
This cutie pie loves playing with other cats and really needs to go to a home where there are other animals for him to play with. His current foster home has several dogs and he gets along really well with them. He isn’t a fan of young children, but he’ll do well in any home that can keep him busy and give him lots of attention. He just needs to go to a home with someone who can monitor is eyes and provide any required veterinary care.
