Poppyseed is a sleek, black, house-panther who is looking for a special home. This summer, Poppy was rescued from a hoarding situation. Unfortunately, she was snot handled much as a youngster, and the handling that she did receive wasn’t very positive, so she developed a distrust of people. Since being in our care she has started to get used to positive handling and new people, but it takes her quite a while to get used to unfamiliar faces. Therefore, Poppy is looking for an adult-only home with a cat-savvy person who has the experience and patience to help her really blossom, in her own time.
Poppy is still not too sure about being pet by human hands. She is curious and wants to connect, but so far she’s only gotten up the bravery to rub up against the legs of familiar people. If you bend down to pet her she still runs away. She will sleep on the bed at night if you’re not moving moving around much, and will sit near you on the couch to watch TV. It’s just that last step of allowing physical touch from hands that Poppy is struggling with. She really deserves a wonderful life so we need to find someone who understands how to help her move forward.
The one thing that Poppy really loves and is very comfortable with is other cats. She was raised in a home with a large number of other cats, so having them around acts as a source of comfort for her. Therefore, it is imperative that she got to a home where there are already other cats. Ideally cats that are social and comfortable with people so that she can learn from the example they set that hands are for giving treats and pats. Poppy will not be comfortable in a home with dogs or children.
