This beautiful girl is Lucy. She is 6 years old and came to us because her owner had to go into a care facility and was no longer able to look after her. Lucy is tortoiseshell cat, and as most tortis do, she has a strong personality and knows what she likes and what she doesn’t. When Lucy is in the mood, she is very snuggly and affectionate and will jump up on your lap or next to you for attention. However, we have found that she tends to get over-stimulated and after a few pets she can get grumpy. She isn’t afraid to let you know when she’s had enough. Having a new owner who can accurately read Lucy’s body language will be important for her.

Lucy is looking for a home where she will be the only pet. She has lived with cats before and was quite aggressive with them. She will be best as an only pet and must have an adult-only home. One with calm, serene energy would be ideal. Lucy is not needy so someone who works away from home for a few hours each day wouldn’t be a problem for her.

She has medium length hair and doesn’t seem to require regular brushing, but Lucy will need to have her coat monitored to ensure that it doesn’t matt. Some brushing may be needed to help keep her coat healthy.

One habit that is important for Lucy’s new family to be aware of is that she really loves to scratch her posts. She needs to have horizontal and vertical scratching surfaces to keep her happy. We have found that she has really enjoyed having a special scratch mat on the floor. Lucy is not a happy camper when she goes to the vet so taking her in for regular nail trims is not an option. She may allow her owner to do it as she becomes more comfortable in her new home, but having lots of scratching outlets for Lucy will be very helpful to keep her nails in good shape.

Lucy just saw the vet to get her vaccines updated and other than being a bit overweight, she appears to be in good health. The vet has started Lucy on a weight loss program. She isn’t terribly overweight, but she should be less than she is.
